How are you doing this week? I have been through quite a few ups and downs. Somedays I am ready to tackle the world, and others I just want to sit and look at pictures of hotels on my computer and fantasize about a vacation. I watched the new HBO Max Documentary “Fake Famous” this past week and it shook me. I realized that in order to live with myself in this industry I need to be as honest about the icky days/ my reality as possible. My life is honestly not that exciting. Maybe I just shot myself in the foot and no one will ever read this blog again (not sure if people even read it actually).
Articles:
I loved reading this article with Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne about how they created long-lasting friendships in a very competitive, and at times selfish industry.
This news story from BBC News about the problem of influencers using filters when taking pictures about beauty products is very eye-opening. I will admit I am very naive about the tricks of the trade on Instagram. Knowing that people use filters to falsify results from beauty products they are promoting is very upsetting. I try to be as honest as possible when I use a filter. I think there should absolutely be a warning when a filter is in use.
Fashion:
I have been very tempted by leather trousers recently. Particularly a pair that has a wider leg, versus the traditional skinny fit. These House of Dagmar trousers would be an investment but I know they would always be in style so I keep coming back to them.
This gold chain bracelet by Jenny Bird looks like the perfect piece for everyday wear. I am always searching for simple and quality bracelets to layer.
I am terrible at finding delicate rings to stack so this set of stackable rings by Omi Woods is the perfect solution. The individual ring designs are based off traditional Egyptian wedding bands.
This is an insanely good price for a Khaite dress. The color is so uplifting and would be a perfect anecdote to the pandemic fatigue/ frustration that I believe we are all experiencing right now.
Beauty:
This is not a new product on the market, but I am giving Paulas Choice Niacinamide a try so it is new to me. I am purchasing it mainly to combat my blotchy winter skin. I have read many positive reviews for the product so I am excited to give it a go.
Speaking of winter skin, this skin calming booster by Rose MD would be very really helpful right now. The serum has hyaluronic acid, white and green tea extracts, and sea whip extract. Even if you do not live in a dry climate these ingredients will serve you well year round.
Home:
I seem to be going through one candle a week right now and I am always looking for a new brand to try. This SOHO House candle scent Leather & Oud would be the perfect winter scent. Also, this is the candle the SOHO House uses in their city properties so maybe it will make me feel like I am in a big city and part of the world.
I have a small bowl on my nightstand I put my jewelry in before I go to bed and I love it. I am very into horn design home pieces right now and this horn tray from Alice Lane would be a great catchall.
Spending so much time at home means that the basic household items that I never really paid much attention to (tupperware, a soap dish, storage containers) are now pieces that I desperately want to replace and upgrade. These black storage containers from Effortless Composition have a beautiful ceramic sheen to them with a blonde wood lid. A definite step up from the plastic containers I currently have.
