Boutique Shopping Guide

It is really important for me to have a chance to talk about my favorite privately owned clothing boutiques. Each year as online shopping becomes more and more popular it is important to remember you can shop “local” no matter where you are. For me there is nothing like visiting a well curated boutique. I have an immense amount of respect for those who have opened their own brick and mortar space. The incredible amount of work, love, and determination that occurs when you have your own space is a beautiful, and very admirable thing. I want to make this a working document that I can continue to update since there are so many beautiful boutiques out there.

I find myself returning to these stores websites, and if possible visiting them in person, to find pieces that larger stores often overlook. Next time you are shopping online give these gorgeous stores a try first.

Fashion Boutiques:

Sunroom: I visited this store in Austin, Texas last year and I loved everything I saw. It feels down to earth, but also you know you are somewhere very unique. Sunroom carries Alix of Bohemia jackets which are on my “Someday I will own one of these” list. They carry quite a few brands I had never heard of previously, but I became a fan of after visiting the store. They also have a location at Malibu Country Mart for those in the Los Angeles area.

No.6: This New York boutique is just straight up cool. I am not a cool person, but looking at this website makes me believe I could be cool wearing their clothes. A lot of the items in this store belong to their brand, No.6. Which guarantees you are buying something that very few people have.

Hampden: This is the store you can get lost in for hours. Trust me, I did it. Located in Charleston, South Carolina in a gorgeous historic building. You immediately know you are somewhere special when you enter. It is clear that each piece in this store is chosen with a lot of love.

McMullen: This store is a recent discovery for me and I have spent a lot of time browsing the incredible selection of pieces offered here. There are investment pieces alongside everyday wear pieces. What I love is that you can find really fun, colorful clothing and jewelry here that is approachable. If I am ever in Oakland this store will be my first stop.

Beige: This store located in Little Rock, Arkansas carries some of my all time favorite designers; Mara Hoffman, Rachel Comey, and St. Agni. You can tell there is a lot of thought that goes into the curation of the store. I have been introduced me to a lot of new designers that I now follow and purchase from.

Pilot and Powell: I remember the first time I stepped into this stunning store on Magazine Street in New Orleans. I had two thoughts, 1. “Can I have everything” and 2. “I really should be monitored here.” The interior of the store is stunning and the clothing and jewelry is absurdly beautiful. I visit this stores website a few times a month to see what the owners have brought in. I really want a special occasion event so I can justify one of the dresses on offer here.
