Buttons downs 101

The Beauty of a Button Down

I am a bit of button down expert. Year round it is the first thing I reach for when I get dressed. When I am traveling a majority of the tops I bring are button downs. They just seem to go with everything! This past summer I lived in my yellow linen shirt. Seriously, I think most of my IG photos are me in that shirt from June to July. My ride or die button down would have to be the poplin from Aiayu. Absolutely my desert island item.

Given my love, and respect, for a great button down here are a few I am currently coveting.

Figaret is a French brand that makes timeless pieces. I have been on the hunt for a black silk button down with a feminine touch for quite some time. This one has understated ruffles around the neck and a low cut front that I can’t stop thinking about. I would pair this gorgeous top with black jeans for a casual look, or with white pants for a more elevated feeling.

If there was one designer that I would chose to dress me everyday for the rest of my life it would be Nili Lotan. Her style is classic, a bit masculine and toes the line of femininity perfectly. This shirt has a nice combination of classic blue and white stripes and front ruffles. Normally I would shy away from overt ruffles like this but I am quite taken with this one. You can’t go wrong pairing this top with a pair of her wide leg denim.

I discovered With Nothing Underneath this past Spring and I have been incredibly impressed by their pieces. I have purchased quite a few of their linen shirts. This perfectly neutral shirt made from soft cotton would be perfect as a layering pieces in the cooler months. I can see it paired with ecru denim and a brown boots.

Is there anything cooler than a black leather button down? This one from Nanushka is a vegan leather and I can attest it is absurdly soft. What I love about this shirt is the versatility of it. I would pair it with black jeans and white t-shirt for an edgier outfit, or with black silk dress to dress down something more formal.

A purchased a Misha Nonoo husband shirt last year and I get it why everyone loves this brand. This shirt is the perfect timeless blue and white button down which is a closet essential. What I really love about the husband shirt is the pleated back and how it provides a beautiful flow to the shirt. Because this shirt has a very professional look I would go with black leather pants and black chelsea boots.

Lisou a London based brand that designs gorgeous silk pieces. I highly encourage you to check out her dresses. What I love about this shirt is the bow on the front that adds a dimension of classic style to any outfit. Pairing this shirt with a pair of wide leg ecru denim feels lady like and retro.
